Tax on Femininity

Suppose you want to go from Gurgaon to Noida at 8 PM. What do you do? There can be two action courses here:

Case 1: In case you are a guy, you pack your bag, catch a bus, pay 15 bucks... and off you go. Simple. 'Sochna kya' types...

Case 2: In case you are a girl. Keep in mind that its 8 at night (and not 8 PM) and the distance is nearly 50 kms. So the option of bus is not in the picture anymore. Kindly go in the morning.
But you really want to go? You girls have so many 'wants'! Go in the morning.
Its 'urgent'? Damn. Take a so-called 'safe radio cab'. Shell out 750 bucks (yeah, 15 x 50) and go.

Got it? Simple rule, If a male species wants to go, he can go in Rs. 15 but a female needs Rs. 750 for the same journey (poor girl? Well, then cancel the journey).

This is what I call tax on femininity. Just about 3650% !!!

And females, the department which collects this tax is very vigilant. So please don't even try to evade this tax, else the dept will rape raid you.

Well,I think you were a bit too harsh here... Looks like someone close to you (or you yourself) faced it... But see, you can take a life... And ya, girls are rarely asked to stay late for that very same reason and hence it evens out in the end...

And ya, Mr.Delusions was right in a way... Now-a-days, that separate ladies line funda is vanishing though as people are starting to take a sterner action in that sense... But the rest of the perks stay...

It was just a bit harsh in the last line of the post though... I understand the frustation, but I blame no one for that...

@ Varun: yes I face such situations, every girl does. I dont mind admitting it. Boys, its a reality, that girls are not safe.

& you wrote - "And ya, girls are rarely asked to stay late for that very same reason"...

I ask why cant girls stay late? Why cant they just do what they want to, like boys, without looking at the clock or worrying about "oh, its getting dark"...

Isnt' it precisely a TAX on females that all other things being the same, a female has 1 more constraint (i.e. protecting herself from male intrusion), while making almost every little decision of her life, be it travelling from Gurgaon to Noida!

I blame the insensitive male community (not the entire male community) for this... Why cant girls and boys be really equal, in every sense of the word?

And yes, it doesnt even out in the end... Despite all this "ladies first" stuff, the emotional and physical rape of girls continues, unfettered!

See, it's not that I like that fact that girls are not allowed to stay late etc etc, but what you are doing is challenging what has been years of authority and norm in the society...

Think like this: Why do snakes attack humans? Because they feel threatened... In a way, the intrusion of women into professional life has changed the scenario in many many lives. Men do find it hard to accept that fact that women are equal to them in that respect.

Change is something that does not happen fast. It needs time and takes place slowly. And even women need to accept that fact that such changes need time and not everything can happen in ine day or two...

And the emotional and physical rape is not just a backlash, but it takes a lot more assessment into the psych of the people who do so.

Good days come ahead... Women are always constrained by family responsibilities and that is one thing thet like to do... Multi-tasking is tough and family+work is even tougher.. Women are also humans and not super-humans..

What I want to convey is€: It is will take time to change the mindset of men and women alike... Wait and watch...

I am sorry... if my comment seems a little out of place.

but Just minor correction -

Gurgaon to Noida =(15*50)+51= INR 801 |Toll tax for "Safe Radio Cabs"|

So i think... tax works out to somwhere around 5240%

:-)

See being a human being, you have to compromise in some situations. Here i admit ladies suffer, but think about the BMTC busses in bangalore, where 25% of seats in every bus is reserved for LADIES.In a fully packed bus ,around 80% of people are gents, but cause of lack of seats for them,u can see some guys hanging outside the entry door with only toes and fingers intact with bus or some guys engaged in a cold war to occupy the seat of the person who is supposed to get off on next stoppage. Here albeit ladies are 20%,they will get their seats reserved-for-ladies ones and start gossipping about neighbours marriage party or how to cook paneer-tandoori mix to pacify the stress of their all-in-all who will return home after few hours.....so take it easy yaar..

Hmm... More often than not, I feel that guys prefer to hang out from the doors in busses not just b'coz of seat shortage... but b'coz they r impatient and would rather 'latko' in an overcrowded bus than wait for the next bus....

Nonetheless... the discussion here highlights one major challenge (besides female security), i.e., the dismal state of public transportion in India
